Shadow Work Prompts

Perfectionism

Why does your mind always prepare for the worst?

Anxiety isn't always loud. Sometimes it looks like overthinking every decision, replaying conversations, needing constant reassurance, struggling to relax, or imagining everything that could go wrong before it even happens.

The prompts below are here to help you explore what your anxiety might be trying to protect you from.

What Did You Notice?

Take a moment to look back at your answers.

You don't need to analyze every detail. Simply notice what stood out.

Sometimes awareness begins with recognizing that the same fear has been wearing different disguises throughout your life.

One Last Thought

If today's questions felt overwhelming, be gentle with yourself.

Anxiety often convinces us that we need to stay alert all the time, as if relaxing means something bad will happen. But many of the fears anxiety carries were learned from experiences where your mind was simply trying to protect you.

That doesn't make you broken, it makes you human.

The goal isn't to silence anxiety overnight or pretend it doesn't exist. The goal is to understand it well enough that it no longer makes every decision for you.

Every time you're willing to pause and ask, "What is my anxiety trying to protect me from?" you're creating space between yourself and the fear. And in that space, you begin to remember that you are more than your anxious thoughts.

One Small Step

The next time you notice yourself imagining the worst-case scenario, don't try to force the thought away.

Instead, ask yourself two questions:

"What evidence do I have that this is true?"

Then ask:

"Is there another possibility I haven't considered?"

You don't need to convince yourself that everything will be okay. Simply remind yourself that your first thought isn't always the only possible outcome.

That's how self-trust begins - one small pause at a time.

You don't have to answer every prompt today. Come back whenever you're ready, this space will be here.
