Shadow Work Prompts
Self-Respect
Why do I keep betraying myself?
Self-respect isn't built by demanding respect from others. It begins with the way you treat yourself when no one else is watching.
Sometimes we lose self-respect quietly. We ignore our intuition, break promises to ourselves, stay in situations that drain us, or keep choosing what feels familiar over what feels healthy.
These prompts aren't here to judge your choices. They're here to help you notice where you've been abandoning yourself and where you can begin choosing yourself again.
What Did You Notice?
As you reflected on your answers, you may have noticed that self-respect isn't usually lost in one big moment. It's often shaped by small, repeated choices, ignoring your feelings, putting your needs aside, or convincing yourself that you'll choose yourself "next time." The good news is that it can be rebuilt the same way: one honest choice at a time. Every time you listen to your intuition, keep a promise to yourself, or walk away from what no longer aligns with your values, you strengthen the relationship you have with yourself.
A Gentle Reminder
You don't lose your worth because you've ignored yourself in the past. Most of us learned to survive by keeping the peace, pleasing others, or accepting less than we deserved. Those choices don't define you forever. Today, you have another opportunity to treat yourself with the same care, honesty, and respect that you so freely offer other people.
