Shadow Work Prompts

Abandonment Wounds

Why does being left still hurt so much?

Being abandoned doesn't only hurt because someone left. It hurts because, somewhere along the way, you may have started believing their leaving said something about you. Maybe you learned that love has to be earned, that asking for too much pushes people away, or that everyone eventually leaves.

These prompts are here to help you gently explore how those experiences may still be shaping your relationships, your self-worth, and the way you show up today.

What Did You Notice?

As you read through your answers, notice if the same belief appeared in different moments of your life. Sometimes the deepest wound isn't that someone left, it's the meaning we attached to their leaving. Awareness doesn't change the past, but it helps you stop letting the past define your present.

A Gentle Reminder

The ways you've learned to protect yourself weren't created because you were broken. They were created because, at one point, they helped you survive. You don't have to fight those parts of yourself anymore. You can begin understanding them with kindness, one step at a time.

One Small Step

The next time you fear someone is pulling away, pause before reacting. Ask yourself, "Am I responding to what's happening right now, or to something that happened long ago?" That one question can help you respond with awareness instead of fear.

You don't have to answer every prompt today. Come back whenever you're ready, this space will be here.
